Henry darrow: the book

Henry darrow: the biography

Read an excerpt from Lightning in a Bottle:

Darrow’s first horse, Diablo, wasn’t quite as good at avoiding Leif Erickson. In the initial scene where Darrow would do serious riding, he mounted up quickly and galloped through the yard to the ranch-house. Handsome black Diablo was reactive and fast. “All of a sudden, there was Leif Erickson on foot and I thought, oh my God, I’m going to run over him!” Darrow yanked the reins to turn Diablo, but wasn’t quick enough. The animal’s hip slammed into Erickson, tossing him in the air. “And that’s how I broke Leif’s wrist,” he says. “Somewhere, there’s a picture of him upside down just before he landed.” Erickson recovered with no hard feelings, but for as long as Chaparral aired, whenever anyone was on foot and Darrow rode up, he swears they took a step backward.

Notable Quotes about Henry Darrow:

He was everything a director could ever possibly want. I call him ‘lightning in the bottle’ because he would show up ready to go. Take one, he’s great!
~
Francisco Menendez

It’s my passion. I’m there to do my best. Rehearsals are a step back, because I’ll be well-prepared and other people won’t be. I research the part. I have all of my dialogue memorized, then work in my interpretation, my own personality, where it works and where it doesn’t. Somebody says it’s not competitive and I say, oh yes it is! Be ready, guys!
~Henry Darrow

When Henry Darrow came onto the set, it was like the sun came up.
~Linda Cristal

If people only knew how funny he can be. He should have the lead in a comedy series.
~Comedienne/Actress Ruth Buzzi

I was awestruck. His face, his eyes -- you can't stop looking at him.
~Actress Sally Struthers

He’s a real gentleman, always was. He’s the kind of guy who opens the door for you, he’s the kind of guy who stands up until you sit down. He's a very romantic guy. He brings me flowers for absolutely nothing. It's Tuesday, here's a bouquet.
~ Actress/Novelist/Wife Lauren Levian

When Darrow came in the second season, it was like a volcano! Bla-BOOM!
~ Actor James Victor (The New World Zorro)

I think Henry’s character lent itself to being very flambouyant. And you really saw his character develop and henry did all that. It was on the script, but he really took the words and made them come alive.
~Producer Kent McCray (The High Chaparral)

Loved as a person and performer, respected for his absolute professionalism, engaging Darrow is a biographer’s dream. Not only does he have a phenomenal memory for detail and an extensive memorabilia collection, but friends, family and colleagues are happy to talk about him.
